The neurosonology workshop will include a didactic session on transcranial doppler and ultrasound, followed by hands-on experience with the technologies. Transcranial doppler is portable tool allowing bedside assessment in stroke patients. It can assess for vasospasm after subarachnoid hemorrhage, screen for emboli, and assess for intracranial occlusions and intrathoracic shunts, among other things.

Learning Objectives:

At the end of the workshop the participant will be able to describe indications for transcranial doppler and carotid ultrasound.
At the end of the workshop the participant will be able to describe the physiological parameters assessed by transcranial doppler, including mean flow velocity, vasomotor reactivity, and doppler based vascular anatomy.
At the end of the workshop the participant will be able to list instances where neurosonology can be clinically useful, including screening for vasospasm after subarachnoid hemorrhage, detecting microemboli, and detecting intrathoracic shunts, among others.
At the end of the workshop the participant will be able to demonstrate basic techniques of transcranial doppler and carotid ultrasound.
