Society Day Course
This course provides a comprehensive and interactive review of the fascinating field of modern seizure detection devices, the core elements of mortality and morbidity in patients with epilepsy, and Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU) safety. It will explore not only the availability of wearable devices, but also the clinical evidence and expert international recommendations for the use of automatic seizure detection using wearable devices. Speakers will also focus on the related and crucial topic of Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy (SUDEP), particularly from the standpoint of known predisposing factors and viable biomarkers for this catastrophic complication of epilepsy. The audience will gain insights into the other important causes of mortality in patients with epilepsy and the burden of morbidity related to this condition. Engaging discourse pertaining to the principles and practice patterns for safety in the Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU) is also featured.
